Lernorganisation Structure of the sessions
The sessions are intended to give an introduction to the interdisciplinary transformation dis-course and enable in-depth debate of its essential and up-to-date scientific papers. Students are expected to prepare to the seminar by reading the respective paper that will be discussed in the session. For this purpose, students are grouped according to a set of criteria for ana-lyzing conceptions of social-ecological transformations: depth of change, breadth of change, timeframe of change, direction of change . Students then prepare the respective paper, par-ticularly focusing on the contribution of the paper to the assigned category. In the sessions, the contents of the paper are discussed along the lines of critical thinking. First, it is assured that the papers are well understood by the students, then critically discussed in further detail with focus on the SET criteria, where the students’ insights will be brought together and fur-ther developed.
Leistungsnachweis Examination requirements: Portfolio: discussion contributions in all sessions (ungraded), Critical review of one paper in the form of an essay (max 5 pages)
Essay: For the essay, students have two options:
i. Students will chose one of the papers discussed in the seminar and write a critical review of the paper. This includes summarizing the main ideas of the paper, critically reflecting on the coherence and academic quality of the paper, its contribution and relevance to the trans-formation discourse, potential applications and raising future research questions that can be derived from the paper. Guidelines on how to review a paper will be provided in the semi-nar.
ii. Alternatively, students can chose to write an essay on one theoretically or practically rel-evant research question, taking one or several of the required reading papers as a basis. Stu-dents should consult with one of the lecturers regarding the selected question and approach.
