Miscellanea During the lecture an online Seminar Blog will be introduced. The protected online environment sevres to create a format of a teaching/learning platform allowing to read results from colleagues, exchange and comment on ideas. It allows to administer media.

Introduction (course structure, learning objectives, energy services, students’ contribution, examination); Renewable Energy – Energy Systems – Energy Services, Thermodynamics I, Students work: 2-degree target and personal energy balance, Thermodynamics II, Solar Resource and Solar radiation, Solar Energy Systems I: Photovoltaics, Solar Energy Systems II: Solar Thermal, Wind resource and local conditions for wind energy converter, Wind turbines and wind farms, Global surface water + hydro power, Geothermal and Ocean Energy, Biomass Origin + Energy from Biomass, Energy Efficiency – identifying and minimising wastes; (2) Balance of Power from RE Sources (grid integration, storage, demand side), Evaluation

Comment/Description

Introduction into the areas of renewable energies, with special emphasis on energy conversion and utilization, based on complex physical models. The student will be able to understand the fundamental principles of the field renewable energies.

Contents:
Energy supply and demand; energy use & climate change, energy resources; renewable energy sources (resources, technology & application): photovoltaics, solar thermal systems and power plants, wind power, hydropower, geothermal energy, biomass; hydrogen technology and fuel cells; energy storage; sustainable energy supply.
