Kommentar/Beschreibung

The goal of this course is to provide an overview of various phenomena related to light-matter interaction in different kinds of materials (molecules, semiconducting crystals, metals, etc.) and to introduce the theoretical methods that are mostly suited to address these problems. The topics will be presented from a phenomenological perspective, illustrating the physical effects and the observable that represent them. The quantities accessible from different flavors of theory, ranging from model Hamiltonian, to popular ab initio methods like density-functional theory, up to state-of-the-art many-body perturbation theory, will be critically discussed in relation with the adopted approximations.
