Es handelt sich um eine praktische, d.h. tonsetzerische und analytische Einführung in die Musik des 18. Jahrhunderts. Grundlegende und wichtige Stimmführungs- und Analysetools werden anhand typischer Kompositionen von Corelli, J.S. Bach, Händel bis hin zu Haydn oder Mozart behandelt.
