Orientation and goals

Chemistry is a scientific discipline that cuts across many others, contributing to a critical-rational view of the world through its basic concepts, theories, and models. Knowledge of chemistry is a prerequisite for the manufacture and use of a wide variety of materials in industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and in the home. For this reason, chemistry is one of the supporting pillars of our society, and is therefore indispensable for the well being of human beings. Chemistry research and the application of its results in various branches of industry and institutions form an essential cornerstone in the creation of value in Germany. This bachelor's programme prepares students for a career actively driving innovation through the application of chemical knowledge and scientific methods, and using the results for the good of society. Technical research in chemistry at the University of Oldenburg is embedded in a culture of interdisciplinary discourse and socially responsible thinking, something that can also be applied to the university as a whole. If you are interested in natural sciences, want to combine theoretical contemplation with practical experiments, enjoy technical discussions and place high value on close contact to professors and academic assistants, then you should definitely consider studying in this programme. Prospective students who have had chemistry, mathematics, German, and English up to the highest possible level in secondary school have a strong advantage.
