Orientation and goals

Sport Science at the University of Oldenburg provides a cross section of different disciplines. It is distinguished by its combination of theory and practice, as well as its interdisciplinary character. The primary focus of this degree course is human body movement and behaviour in people of all age groups, milieus, and genders in the diverse forms of modern sport and athletic culture, particularly with regards to pedagogical, sociological, medical, and athletic training oriented perspectives. Issues concerning the meaning of physical movement in educating capable subjects, in lifestyles, and in the (re)production of societal structures are especially relevant to this programme.

Language skills

In order to study this course at the University of Oldenburg as a student from outside of Germany, you need an adequate knowledge of German.

German Language Proficiency
You can proof your German language proficiency with the following language certificates:
  • DSH: Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (Level 2)
  • TestDaF: Test – Deutsch als Fremdsprache (with level 4 in all four areas)

The proof of language proficiency must be presented for the enrolment. For other proof possiblities see: Language requirements

Admission requirements

International applicants who received their prior education abroad should apply online through uni-assist. For further details see: Application for international students

Applicants must successfully complete a Sports Suitability Test at the University in order to be admitted. This is a practical exam concerning individual and team sports, as well as an endurance test. Students still have to apply at the Admissions Office (Immatrikulationsamt), regardless of whether or not they have taken a fitness exam. Secondary school leaving certificates or equivalent documents are not needed when applying for a qualifying fitness exam. However, the Admissions Office does need these documents.

Further information can be found on the website:
Sport Science - Suitability
Sport Science Regulations: Please check special admission requirements (in German) for further information.

Careers and areas of work

When combined with the main theme 'Knowledge and Skills Transfer', this programme is primarily geared towards a subsequent Master of Education. The main theme 'Prevention and Lifestyle' is intended to prepare students for careers outside of education (such as fitness and wellness centres, athletic clubs, etc.). In the master's programme, students can seek a teaching qualification, as well as qualifications for careers in sports research, in rehabilitation and prevention, as well as in sport and health counselling. Additionally, the Master of Arts and Master of Education degrees open the door to further study at the doctoral level.
