Orientation and goals

With this further education oriented programme Intercultural Education and Counselling, the University of Oldenburg offers highly qualified migrants with educational backgrounds in education, social work, or social sciences the opportunity to study in a unique programme at the bachelor's level. Thus, the University of Oldenburg is able to build upon experience gained in the programme 'Intercultural Competence in Educational Career Fields' and expand this certified further education programme into a formally recognised degree programme. The goal of this programme is to give students knowledge, abilities, and skills that will help them develop intercultural competence in educational career fields. Students learn describe complex problems and to analyse and thereby connect theoretical knowledge to their practical experience.

Language skills

In order to study this course at the University of Oldenburg as a student from outside of Germany, you need an adequate knowledge of German.

German Language Proficiency
You can proof your German language proficiency with the following language certificates:
  • DSH: Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (Level 2)
  • TestDaF: Test – Deutsch als Fremdsprache (with level 4 in all four areas)

Admission requirements

To be eligible for this Bachelor’s degree programme candidates must:
  • Possess the general or subject-specific university entrance qualification, in accordance with § 18 NHG
  • Have a migration background. A migration background is particularly sought after in candidates who have migrated to the Federal Republic of Germany and have not gone through the German education system
  • Have had at least two semesters of study in Education, Social Pedagogy, Social Sciences or comparable pedagogical credits in a related discipline at a university, university of applied sciences or similar institution where a total of 60 verified ECTS have been acquired or have been deemed as the equivalent by the higher education institution
  • Have held a job or voluntary position in a relevant educational and or socially-related professional field, totalling at least two years of experience
  • Satisfy the entry requirements, comparable with the basic requirements for the Bachelor’s of Education degree programme and/or content-related courses in the fields of professionalization for teachers at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg.

In particular, an introductory knowledge in the following areas must be demonstrated: the foundations of education, the history of education, fields of activity in education, social science foundation for educators, educational psychology, or psychological foundation for educators.

Enrolment takes place in the third semester.

This degree qualifies graduates for careers in the fields of social work and education, educational work, youth work, social work with immigrants, school social work, cultural bodies, professional orientation and labour market integration.
