The Master of Education (Gymnasium) is taught over four semesters in which you must earn 120 credit points. You will advance your curricular knowledge in both teaching subjects (30 credit points each). In the area of specialization, you will study education science related content (18 credit points) and complete practical training (12 credit points). At the end of the degree programme, you will follow the Masterabschlussmodul (27 credit points) and the Abschlusskolloquium (3 credit points).
This master's degree programme prepares students for a teaching position in Gymnasium schools. The Master of Education degree programmes at the University of Oldenburg are characterised by a practical relevance to schooling and application of current research methods. In practical courses and research, you will gain first-hand experience of school cultures and plan lessons independently.

During your studies, you will advance your curricular and teaching method knowledge and follow modules in education science. You will continue your practical training in 9-week long internships at schools in the Weser-Ems area.
During the master's degree programme you will learn how to conduct independent research with professional supervision. The modules 'Schul- und Unterrichtsforschung und ihre Forschungsmethoden' and practical teaching modules are an important part of this. In the practical phase, you will be supported by a strong network of experienced mentors from the schools.
The prerequisites above apply to the application. This is an open admissions degree course. Application is only possible in the winter semester for 1st and higher semester. The application deadline for the winter semester is 15th August.

The Master of Education (Gymnasium) prepares students for a teaching position in secondary education. After the master's degree programme, you are required to enter teacher training (Referendariat) for a teaching position at a secondary school (Gymnasium). Graduates can also work in private and religious schools, in private tutoring institutes or in schools in other countries. Completing the degree also qualifies students for PhD research.
