Orientation and goals

As an academic subject, the goal of technology is to teach the fundamentals of the technical sciences. Unlike the natural sciences, the technical sciences are focused on function. The technical sciences provide technological knowledge for production, administration, infrastructure, supply, disposal and recycling. The subject of technology is therefore strongly geared towards application and action. Students develop a fundamental understanding of technology by discovering, constructing, programming and building prototypes themselves. Apart from imparting basic technical knowledge regarding the fields of metals, wood and plastics technology, electrical engineering and automation, other important aspects of technical education are technical evaluation and impact analysis, without which it would be impossible to deal responsibly with the opportunities and risks afforded by technology.

The goal of this programme is to impart the following skills and knowledge:
  • An understanding of technology in the areas spanning from the individual, society, and nature
  • An understanding of systems and processes for analysis, systemising, and evaluation
  • The correct application of technological methods and activities
  • The ability to mediate technological issues and relationships in planning, execution, and evaluation
