Prerequisites | Introductory acoustics lecture |
Skills to be acquired in this module | The students acquire knowledge about concepts and methods in auditory perception, psychoacoustics, subjective test design, and auditory scene analysis. The students acquire skills to apply these concepts and methods in practice (e.g. sound quality measurement, signal processing algorithms). |
Module contents | Applied psychophysics Subjective listening experiment design and models of human auditory perception will be treated with a focus on application in sound quality measurement (e.g. for vehicle noise and sound reproduction) and in digital signal processing algorithm development (e.g. for low bit-rate audio coding and headphone virtualizers).
Auditory Scene Analysis in Speech and Music Basic principles of auditory scene analysis: sequential and simultaneous segregation, schema-based segregation; scene analysis in music perception: the cocktail party problem, speech intelligibility in complex acoustic environments, hearing loss, and experimental methods; speech and music perception with hearing aids and cochlear implants |
