Prerequisites
Skills to be acquired in this module

Develop proficiency in marine molecular genetics. This includes understanding fundamental population genetic and phylogenetic concepts, the type of data generated by these approaches, how to analyse and interpret them, and more generally understanding their potential to address a variety of fundamental and applied questions in marine science.

Module contents

The course will cover marine population genetics, some aspects of phylogenetics, and a variety of specific approaches such as metabarcoding (including eDNA), gene expression or whole-genome analysis.

We will see what types of data are generated by these approaches, how to analyse and interpret these data, and how they can be used to address a variety of fundamental and applied questions in marine science. A computer practical, in addition to lectures and paper discussions, will provide the opportunity to have hands-on experience with data analysis.
