Module contents
The classes offered within this module enable students to understand the political processes involved in the internationalization and Europeanization of economic law, and to recognize the effects these have on law making and enforcement within the EU. On the basis of selected areas, students will develop an understanding of the extent to which national sovereign powers may be surrendered, the underlying political reasons, as well the implications thereof. Understanding the complexity of the close link between law and politics, particularly in the field of economic law, should prepare students for work in an ever-intensifying European integration process. The language of instruction is English, as this on the one hand stresses the international character of the theme, while at the same time preparing students for possible careers in international working environments. The content will cover current debates and issues. Topics taught may include:
  • The EU economic relations;
  • Legal protection in EU economic law;
  • The Common Commercial Policy;
  • The EU and developing countries;
  • The EU and WTO;
  • Marine and maritime law;
  • The EU energy policy;
  • Property law and environmental protection within the EU;
  • Health in the internal market,
  • The EU and global health law.
