Skills to be acquired in this module
Given the fact that career and study orientation is a comprehensive school assignment, all trainee teachers at general education schools (HS/RS/Gym/SoPäd) must obtain a basic qualification. In the module, students acquire basic competences for career orientation as a basis for teaching methodology sessions.

Students:
• analyse the current requirements of career transitions
• reconstruct career and study orientation as an individual process that takes place at the interface between personal motives, social environment and the labour market
• categorise career and study orientation as teaching, school educational and special educational tasks
• deal with the requirements of the different methods of contemporary career and study orientation
• work out teaching, special educational and school educational elements of contemporary career and study orientation.

• Educational skills and study aptitude (approaches for a definition)
• Current requirements for career choice decisions
• Continuity alternatives for after secondary levels I and II

• Development of career representations for children and adolescents
• Motives and factors influencing career choice
• Various approaches of career choice theories

• Principles of career and work environments: Career, work, career aptitude; Meaning of career aptitude, characteristics of educational pathways
• Employment requirements for adolescents
• Shaping the transition: Career and education market; Influence of the regional economy

• Preconditions for career orientation in schools
• Career orientation as a comprehensive school task: Involvement of all school subjects and engagement of external partners: subject-specific, educational and organisational requirements
• Learning content and objectives of central measures aimed at supporting career and study orientation in the school system

School concepts and measures for career and study orientation (3 ECTS)
• Career and study orientation as a comprehensive school task: Intramural and extramural partners
• The potential of collaboration: Potential of contacts in the field to ensure career options are represented realistically
• Linking career and study orientation to methodical, large-scale measures, e.g. student work placements

• Procedures and tools for career orientation diagnostics
• Conditions for the successful implementation of competence screening procedures
