Module contents

This module gives an overview of the main issues in vocational and business education as academic discipline, and introduces student to the general rules of academic writing using themes relevant to vocational and business education.

The course of lecture “Introduction into vocational and business education” gives an overview of the scope of the academic field referring to selected themes and research issues. The main terms and issues of vocational and business education are linked to each other designing a structural model of the vocational and business education as academic discipline. The following issues are especially discussed: framework conditions; vocational education policy; occupation, economy and education; objectives; schools as places of learning; enterprises as places of learning; subject specific pedagogy (didactics); training of teachers and trainers in vocational education. Key topics such as inclusive vocational schools, heterogeneity and differentiation, vocational training for sustainable development and digitalization are integrated into these structural concepts. The course of lectures includes discussions, joint work of students and guest lectures.

The tutorial “Introduction into academic writing and working” teaches the main aspects and rules of academic writing. Selected work tasks include planning of academic work and academic writing, rules of citation and literature research. These work tasks are closely linked to the main terms and issues of vocational and business education as academic discipline and are performed in individual and group work arrangements. In addition, the scope of activities in the area of vocational and business education are discussed.
