Module contents

The module offers the opportunity for in-depth analysis of issues regarding staff development, curricular, teaching and school development, and structural and institutional design in in-company and school-based vocational education and training. Four seminars have to be chosen to complete this module: two of the seminars have to focus on structural and institutional aspects (with special emphasis on either in-company or school-based training), the other two seminars have to spotlight of human resource, curriculum, teaching and school development (with special emphasis on either in-company or school-based training).

 

Winter semester: “Human resource development, curriculum, teaching and school development”

 

Seminar themes for the specialisation in in-company vocational training depend on topicality and focus of the lecturer. They might include: job-related socialisation; subjective theories of in-company trainers; knowledge management; age management; self-regulated learning.

 

Seminar themes for the specialisation in school-based vocational education and training depend on topicality and focus of the lecturer. They might include: teacher education and training; subjective theories of teachers; work demands and professional roles in the teaching profession; learning strategies; self-regulated learning; individualised teaching approaches; learning processes orientated on work and operating procedures.

 

Summer semester: “Institutional and structural aspects of vocational and business education”

 

Seminar themes for the specialisation in in-company vocational training depend on topicality and focus of the lecturer. They might include: history of in-company and inter-company vocational training; knowledge management and work-related learning; quality management; financing, costs and benefits of in-company vocational training; inter-company and external vocational education and training; organisational structures of in-company training.

 

Seminar themes for the specialisation in school-based vocational education and training depend on topicality and focus of the lecturer. They might include: school development; quality development; knowledge management; history of vocational education and training; school legislation; vocational education and training systems in Europe; educational policy and governance.

Reference text

Active participation in the seminars is compulsory. Active participation includes the regular participation, the preparation and follow-up of each seminar (e.g. work on given tasks, reading, writing protocols), doing presentations in different form and scope depending on seminar structure and design. The rules regarding active participation are specified in the seminars at the beginning of the semester.
