Prerequisites
Skills to be acquired in this module Part I: The students are enabled to understand basic laser-biotissue interac tion processes based on the knowledge of optical and thermal prop erties of biotissue. The students are able to describe the principle function of a laser, distinguish between the different laser types and designs regarding medical laser systems. The students have a ba sic knowledge on beam guiding techniques, medical applicators, and safety requirements. The students gain an overview on lasers in medicine and a first insight into clinical laser applications via an op tionally excursion to a clinic. Part II: The students are able to analyze and model in depth optical proper ties of biotissue. They can explain laser-tissue interaction in depth. The students are able to design and evaluate medical laser systems and assign specific therapeutical areas. Special emphasis is put into dosimetry and minimal invasive techniques. An optionally excursion to a university clinic enables the students to transfer the acquired course knowledge to practical experience.
