  • Limited access 6.03.642 - Cochlea and auditory brainstem physiology: The encoding of complex and phantom sounds in the auditory periphery Lehrende anzeigen
    • Ph.D. Amarins Nieske Heeringa

This research module consists of learning one or more of the following techniques: analyzing spiking activity from single-unit recordings of the auditory nerve, testing for tinnitus in animals using a behavioral model, recording and analyzing auditory brainstem responses, studying anatomical changes in the brainstem and cochlea using immunohistochemistry. Depending on the content of the research module, which we will discuss on an individual basis, the student should be familiar with (Matlab) programming language, concluded the laboratory animal science course, and/or have some basic practical experience with working in a lab (e.g. pipetting, making solutions).

Lernergebnisse/Kompetenzen

Students will learn to plan, perform and analyse a study in a biological field. Topics will be chosen in close coordination with teaching staff. Depending on the particular project, knowledge in statistics, molecular biology, physiology, modelling, or ethology will be necessary. Results will be related to the current biological literature in a written report and be presented in the seminar of the hosting working group.
