This research module can be flexibly tailored to the students' interest and curiosity. Our team uses various tools and approaches to understand the underlying genetics of the fascinating phenotype bird migration. This module offers the possibility to get insight and experience in a wide range of topics ranging from behavioural experiments both in the field and under controlled conditions, lab based analyses, modelling approaches all the way up to bioinformatics skills of genome or transcriptome data. We are happy to discuss possible projects and are happy to hear your ideas for questions you would want to address, techniques you want to learn or insight you would be curious to gain through this module.

Notes on the module

Prerequisites

Depending on project choice, please check Stud.IP and ask the supervisor. Module can be taken multiple times, however, supervision of individual projects is limited to 45 ECTS for the same combination of student and supervisor (1 research module + Master thesis OR up to 3 research modules, including external research projects)

Students perform individual research projects to learn:

planning and organization of a research project in a group outside of University of
Oldenburg
formulate a scientific hypothesis
planning, performing and analyzing experiments and / or simulations
working with scientific background literature on the specific context of the project
oral presentation and discussion of backgrounds and results in the lab seminar
write a scientific report
prepare and present a scientific poster
