Lernergebnisse/Kompetenzen

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • describe the fundamental principles of neurotransmission and pharmacological modulation of neurotransmitter systems;
  • explain the neural mechanisms underlying major cognitive functions, including attention, learning, emotion, language and executive functions;
  • relate alterations in neurotransmitter systems and neural circuits to changes in cognition and behaviour and to neuropsychiatric disorders;
  • explain basic principles of psychopharmacological interventions and their effects on brain and behaviour;
  • describe and compare major neuroscientific approaches used to investigate brain function in animals and humans;
  • critically evaluate experimental approaches and published research in cognitive neuroscience.
