Description | This master thesis proposes the design and implementation of an (partly) autonomous coffee bot tailored for open space smart office environments. The coffee bot aims by autonomously preparing and delivering coffee to employees within the office premises. The actual preparation of the coffee is supported by a static robotics arm that is placed next to the coffee machine and is controlling the touch interface of a fully automated coffee machine. The robotic arm should place the right cup on the machine and then select the selected coffee type. Once the coffee is /coffees are ready the coffee is to be placed on a delivery robot standing in front of it. In a second step a small delivery robot, once the orders are placed on it, is delivering the coffee(s) to the place in the open space lounge area where the guests are waiting.

Through a combination of requirements analysis, design, development, practical experimentation, and user testing, the thesis evaluates the feasibility, effectiveness, and user acceptance of the coffee bot in real-world office settings. The outcomes of this research contribute to the advancement of autonomous robotic systems and provide valuable insights into the potential applications of robotics in modern workplace environments.
We envision the following Customer Journeyfor the Coffee Bot 1. **Arrival at the Lounge Area:** The guest arrives at the lounge area and is greeted by the host, who introduces the concept of the coffee robot for ordering.
2. **Introduction to the Coffee Robot:** The host explains how to use the coffee robot, guiding the guest through the process of placing an order using a touchscreen interface or voice commands.
3. **Placing the Order:** The guest selects their preferred type of coffee, specifying any customizations such as size, strength, or flavor.
4. **Coffee Robot Preparation:** After the order is confirmed, the coffee robot arm begins preparing the beverage, gri, and brewing the coffee to perfection. 5. **Anticipation:** As the guest waits, they engage in conversation with the host or enjoy the ambiance of the lounge area, excitedly anticipating their freshly brewed coffee.
6. **Delivery by the Little Robot:** Once the coffee is ready, the robot preparing the coffee is putting it on a small delivery robot that is waiting at the coffee station. The delivery robot navigates its way through the lounge area, skillfully avoiding obstacles, and arrives at the guest's table.
7. **Enjoying the Coffee:** The guest receives their coffee from the delivery robot, expressing delight at the seamless service and the aroma of the freshly brewed beverage. They savor each sip, appreciating the quality and convenience of the experience.
8. **Continued Enjoyment:** As the guest enjoys their coffee, they may engage in further conversation with the host or simply relax in the comfortable lounge environment, knowing that another cup is just a few taps away if desired. |
