Electrocochleography (ECochG) is a type of electrophysiological recording technique that measures the electrical activity of the cochlea hair cells and auditory nerve in response to sound stimuli. Recordings are obtained by placing a recording electrode in close proximity to the cochlea, typically in the ear canal wall or touching the tympanic membrane. ECochG is an important indicator of inner ear function.

The goal of this project is to develop an experimental setup to record inner ear responses (cochlear microphonics and summation potentials) using a research EEG system. This will involve testing different electrode types, placements, and sound stimuli to determine the best configuration for recording ECochG data.  The project will be conducted in collaboration with a medical student.

 

Your tasks:

-          Literature review on techniques for obtaining ECochG data

-          Generating different sound stimuli for ECochG recordings

-          Recording ECochG data with different electrode setups

-          Preprocessing and analysis of ECochG data

-          Comparison of SNRs, response latencies, and amplitudes across recording setups

 

What we expect from you:

-          You are interested in auditory neurophysiology

-          You have prior experience with EEG-like methods or the desire to learn it

-          You have some experience in coding and can implement your own data analysis (preferentially in Matlab)
