Topic: Migration behaviour of Eurasian Skylarks

Personal details

Title Migration behaviour of Eurasian Skylarks
Description

The aim of this project is to calculate and compare flight ranges of a declining songbird migrant, the Eurasian Skylark Alauda arvensis. The analysis will be based on own data collected during fieldwork in autumn 2024 and supplemented with data from earlier years and other sites. Fieldwork (nocturnal capture of skylarks) will take place in Schleswig-Holstein, and possiby also in Oldenburg.

This project is part of a larger planned project that aims to investigate the transport of pesticides by migratory birds, and how pesticide pollution affects the migratory behaviour.

Are their site-specific differences in flight ranges?

Are their changes in flight ranges during the course of the autumn season?

Requirement

Candidates are expected to not only have a strong motivation for fieldwork during cold and/or windy nights but also to be ready to analyze the collected data in R.
