Title | Entwicklung eines Algorithmus zur Erkennung von Meeresoberflächenphänomenen anhand von Bildern |
Description | HiWi, Bachelor/Master thesis or practical course (Kontaktpraktikum) at ICBM! Flexible starting date Topic: Develop an algorithm to detect sea-surface phenomena from images The ICBM working group ‘Processes and sensing of marine interfaces’ offers the possibility to do your thesis/practical course in an IT/computing project. We collect many sea surface images from a rowing boat with Martin Stengele (https://martin-stengele.de/atlantic-challenge/). Together with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), we aim to identify sea-surface phenomena such as slick or fronts automatically. We want to develop an algorithm that automatically merges the images, scans them, determines which one has surface phenomena, predicts when they will appear and interprets the frequency of occurrence with ancillary data (wind speed and direction, air and water temperature, salinity). We expect this work to be in paper-worth quality (especially for master thesis). You should have: · Enthusiasm for computational work. · Strong interest in multidisciplinary research. · Good English language skills. · Basic knowledge of programming (preferably Python). We offer: · Experience in sea-surface characteristics. · Data treatment with Python and extensive data management. · Nice working environment in an interdisciplinary and international team.
