In recent years, there have been various breakthroughs in the development of autonomous driven cars. Despite the progress made with respect to verification, validation and certification of autonomous technology in the automotive sector, there is a need to monitor safety critical aspects of vehicle operation. The Isle of Automation concept, introduces a Runtime Assurance architecture for autonomous driving technology to provide an additional layer of operational safety. Here we provide a control center to monitor safety critical aspects of the autonomous operation such as operation design domain, quality of perception etc. and trigger relevant recovery mechanisms in case of anomalies to bring the autonomous vehicle to a safe state by leveraging V2X communication and existing infrastructure sensors. Here an analysis of requirements and a survey of various communication standards / data models is necessary in order to determine the external interfaces of the control center.
