Seen from the East: Judaism under the Iranian "Age of Empires" (hybrid) (Univ. of Oldenburg and Haifa/Israel)

Theologie (insbesondere Altes und Neues Testament) sowie der Alten Geschichte. Im Zentrum steht das entstehende, frühe und antike Judentum in seiner religions-, sozial- und kulturgeschichtlichen Verstrickung zu den machtpolitischen Realitäten der Perser und den Nachfolgekulturen bis in die Sassanidenzeit. Der im Seminar überblickte Zeitraum: 6. Jh.v.Chr. bis 6./7. Jh.n.Chr. Das Seminar eröffnet erstmals einen Blick auf das Judentum aus Perspektive der zahlreichen persischen Quellen selbst. Das Seminar findet in Kooperation mit der Universität Haifa statt. Die Unterrichtssprache ist englisch. Studierende aus Haifa und aus Oldenburg werden daran teilnehmen. Ziel des Seminars ist es damit auch einen interkulturellen Austausch zu ermöglichen. Interessierte melden sich bitte vorab bei den Dozenten. The course's objective is to provide an introduction to the history of the Achaemenid and Parthian empires and the Persian context around the formation of the Old Testament, Second Temple literature and the New Testament. The Achaemenid era is seen, with good reason, as a major formative period in the evolution of Judaism, the structuring and composition of the biblical text and the elaboration of Jewish theology. Contact between Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity with the Persian world continued under the Parthian Empire as well. This course proposes to situate the biblical texts in their eastern historical contexts through an introduction to the history of the Iranian empires, an analysis of archaeological, epigraphic and numismatic data from Elephantine, Babylonia and Persepolis via Qumran and apocryphal texts to the Magi and the Apocalypse. "Antike Welten": Forschungskolloquium Altes Testament und Alte Geschichte
Monday: 18:00 - 20:00, weekly (from 16/10/23) Description: Dieses Seminar ist eine Kooperation des Lehrstuhls für Altes Testament (Prof. Dr. B. Hensel) und des Lehrstuhls für Alte Geschichte (Prof. Dr. M.Sommer) an der UOL und wird auch von FachvertreterInnen der Univ. Bremen und aus Vechta besucht werden. Im Seminar werden aktuelle Forschungen aus der Antiken Geschichte des Mittelmeerraumes, der Archäologie und der alttestamentlichen Wissenschaft vorgestellt und präsentiert. In regelmäßigem Rhythmus werden externe (nationale wie international einschlägig ausgewiesene) Referentinnen und Referenten zu Abendvorträgen mit anschließender Diskussion geladen. Das Forschungskolloquium dient insbesondere der Förderung interessierter Studierende; Interessierte melden sich bitte bei Interesse gerne bei den jeweiligen Lehrstuhlinhabern.
