Angaben zum Inhalt:
Nonlinear optics is the study of phenomena that occur at high light intensities and that are beyond absorption and transmission. Such high intensities can be reached with laser light, with ultrashort pulses, or in the confined geometries of nanostructures. They cause a modification of the optical properties of the material by the laser light itself. As a result, a multitude of effects can be observed, such as the generation of new frequencies leading to white-light supercontinuum and high harmonic generation, or the intensity-dependent modulation of the refractive index and ultrafast switching. In this lecture we will explore these nonlinear effects and their applications as well as the fundamental light-matter interactions that enable them.
