Students are expected to gain an overview of bio-medical physics. They shall understand the activities of physicists in medicine and be able to analyse current research topics of medical physics.
Content:
Medical bases: Anatomy and physiology of humans, sense and neuro physiology, Psychophysics, pathophysiology of select organ systems, pathology of select diseases, physics in the biomedicine: Methods of biophysics and neuro physics, Roentgen diagnostics, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, tomography, the medical acoustics/ultrasonic, medical optics and laser applications, Audiology

Comment/Description
Vermittlung von Grundlagen und vertieften Kenntnissen im Bereich der Optik und Photonik; Vorbereitung auf eine Bachelor-Arbeit in diesem Gebiet.
Inhalt: Geometrische Optik, Wellenoptik, Photonen; Licht und Materie, Ausbreitung von Licht in dispersiven/absorptiven Medien; Wechselwirkung an Grenzflächen; Spiegel, Strahlteiler, Resonatoren, Interferometer, Kohärenz; Polarisation, Fourieroptik, Holographie, Tomographie; Photonische Kristalle, evaneszente Wellen, Wellenleiter- und Faseroptik.
Abhängig von der Anzahl der Teilnehmenden wird der Inhalt der Vorlesung durch Laborführung und/oder eigenes Ausprobieren im Labor ergänzt.
Basics and advanced topics in optics and photonics; preparation for a Bachelor’s thesis in this area of science.
Topics include: geometric optics, wave optics, photons; light and matter, light propagation in dispersive and absorbing material; interaction with interfaces; mirrors, beam splitters, resonators, interferometer, coherence; polarization, Fourier optics, holography, tomography; photonic crystals, evanescent waves, waveguides and optical fibers.
Depending on the number of participants, the contents of the lecture will be supplemented with lab tours and/or hands-on experiments.
