What effects does labor market inequality have on politics? Does working-class affiliation still influence voting behavior, or do other factors play a greater role? How does this affect the electoral success and vote-seeking strategy of parties? In this seminar, we shed light on these, among others, questions. The seminar will focus on the effects of (labor market) inequalities on the main political actors, that are parties and voters. The seminar is divided into three blocks. First, we look at labor market inequalities and their effects on voters' political behavior and attitudes. In the second part of the seminar we will look at the consequences for political parties and their strategies. In the third part, we will look at political representation and inequality and their effects on democracy. In addition to the content of these topics, you will also learn how to deal independently with relevant literature and current research as well as how to think analytically about relevant questions of politics and political science.
