Hardly any artistic community has influenced the Modernist Movement in Britain and Europe more deeply than the Bloomsbury Group. Its members - including Virginia and Leonard Woolf, Vanessa and Clive Bell, Duncan Grant, Lytton Strachey, and E.M. Forster, to name but a few - have effectively dissociated themselves from a Victorian cultural heritage whose impact has been all but overbearing in order to explore new ways of writing, painting - and living. The seminar aims to investigate the works of some of the above artists and to examine their highly individual routes to a Mordernist subjectivity as well as their cultural afterlife.
