Beschreibung: This course focuses on teaching elements of literature and culture, as well as using different forms of media in the classroom. It will introduce students to various strategies, techniques and resources for introducing various types of English literary texts, songs and films to students at a variety of levels, examining many of the common problems and hoping to find solutions. We will also look at which aspects of Anglophone culture are relevant for school students, and how to bring authentic materials dealing with these issues into the classroom. Finally, we will look at practical ways of using multimedia and drama in the classroom. Students will work on completing a group project in the course of the semester based on one of the ideas introduced in class (staging a play, dubbing a film clip), and will have the opportunity to discuss and evaluate different approaches. This is an extremely practical course, and active participation and cooperation during the teaching activities in each class session is very important. Assessment is via a portfolio basis, with the portfolio contents determined by your choice of group task. Readings and teaching resources will be available from Stud.IP at the beginning of the semester. You will also need access to a reasonably modern computer for some of the activities - in particular, you will need a media player able to display subtitles and multiple soundtracks (VLC is recommended) and a basic text editor (eg. Notepad in Windows.) Where possible, classroom examples will be based on the current Abitur syllabus and the core curriculum in Lower Saxony. Note: This course is graded for students completing it as part of ang900, and assessed on a pass/fail basis for all other modules.
