Each meeting will combine a 60-minutes lecture with a 30-minute journal club on a recent auditory neuroscience paper.
The lecture will give an overview of different topics in auditory perception and cognition, including the functional and structural organization of the human auditory system, perception and neural processing of different sound qualities (pitch, timbre, loudness, direction), auditory scene analysis, auditory attention, speech processing, and plasticity of the auditory system. Besides, you will learn about common methods in auditory psychophysics and auditory cognitive neuroscience.
In the journal club, we will discuss a recent and notable paper in the field of auditory cognitive neuroscience, thus highlighting the current state of research in the field. Each journal club will be led by a student presenter, who will provide a short summary of the research and will serve as an “expert” in the following discussion. However, I expect that all students have read the paper beforehand and bring their questions to ensure a vivid discussion.
