Workshop
Thursday, 26 November, 10-13h
Friday, 27 November, 14-18h

Carried out by Dr. Mohammed Baobaid (University of Western Ontario, Canada)

Outline
This course will discuss the complexities associated with family violence in immigrant collectivist communities, while living within an individualist dominant culture. The continuum of both collectivist and individualist cultures will be explored, along with their inherent values and beliefs. This will help better understand the dynamic of family violence and safety concerns in in intercultural context. It will present the layers that affect families migrating to Western countries from collectivist societies and conflict zones. After discussing risk factors related to migratory experiences and cultural differences, good practices of culturally appropriate prevention and intervention strategies will be presented.
