Beschreibung: This workshop takes place in the framework of the MA programme EMMIR (www.emmir.org) and will be taught by Tania Bruguera (New York based Cuban artist). Outline Global Citizen (Artist Workshop) Tania Bruguera askes the workshop’s participants to pick an issue in current migration societies they do not feel comfortable with and, consequently would like to change. From the participant’s very personnel perspectives and ideas, the workshop aims to explore on how Art can develop a useful, social dimension in the realm of global citizenship and artivism and to conceptualize a common project that envisions a different legal reality in European migration policy framework. What is the social use of Art? You can read about Arte Útil on the following pages: http://arteutil.net http://www.taniabruguera.com/cms/592-0-Reflexions+on+Useful+Art.htm http://www.taniabruguera.com/cms/528-0-Introduction+on+Useful+Art.htm Global citizen course will have as a departure point the experience of artivist Tania Bruguera at Immigrant Movement International, a project that Works as a community space where practical knowledge is merged with creative knowledge through arte útil with a holistic approach to education open to all regardless of legal status; a think tank that recognizes (im)migrant’s role in the advancement of society at large and envisions a different legal reality for human migration and a lab practicing artivist tactics and new tools for communication in the public sphere to access political dialogue in an effort to transform social affect into political effectiveness. In the course we would imagine a world without borders its potentials and the elements used to resist it. Bio Tania Bruguera is a leading political and performance artist researching ways in which Art applies to everyday political life by transforming social affect into political effectiveness. Her long-term projects have been intensive interventions on the institutional structure of collective memory, education and politics. To define her practice she uses the terms arte de conducta (Conduct/Behavior Art), Arte Útil (Useful Art), political-timing specific and and aest-ethics. Called a catalyst, Bruguera is highly regarded by artists, academics and political activists. Her art project of an art school for performance and political art in Havana inspired other similar institutions in Latin America. Bruguera was invited as an expert for a preliminary document on cultural rights to be presented by UNSR to the HRC in 2013; she participated in the initial meetings for Occupy Wall Street and a TED Talks Global speaker in 2013. She is currently working on the political representation of migrants through her project Immigrant Movement International.
