Skills to be acquired in this module | Participants who successfully complete this course covering the topics mentioned will greatly benefit from a comprehensive understanding of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and its applications. They will gain proficiency in utilizing the product operator formalism to describe 2D NMR experiments such as COSY, TOCSY, HSQC, HMBC, NOESY/ROESY, and more. This knowledge will enable them to analyze complex mixtures, perform structural analysis, and explore advanced NMR techniques like J-RES, DOSY, non-uniform sampling, and pure-shift NMR. Students will also learn about selective excitation, quantitative NMR, and the fundamentals of solid-state NMR. Moreover, they will explore the practical applications of NMR spectroscopy in various fields, including Environmental Science, Chemistry, and Biology. In particular, the course will focus on the structural analysis of marine DOM (dissolved organic matter) through NMR, providing hands-on experience with data acquisition, processing, and interpretation. Overall, completion of this course will equip participants with a strong foundation in NMR spectroscopy and its diverse applications, empowering them to excel in research, industry, or further studies in related fields. The hands-on NMR training will take place on the state-of-the-art Bruker Avance Neo 800 MHz NMR instrument, which is equipped with a variety of helium-cooled cryoprobes. |
