Book Reviews Your book reviews should have a length of min. 2000/max. 3000 words. The task is designed to introduce you to major publications that focus on migration or intercultural relations research, discussing specific questions or phenomena arising from recent trends in migration. To complete this assignment successfully, you need to read the full text of the book of your choice and evaluate it critically, drawing upon skills and knowledge that you acquired. You are asked to assess the quality of the book and locate it within the field of contemporary research. The book review should provide a brief description of the book, where you outline the author’s main ideas and arguments. This summary should be limited to no more than a quarter of the review. Furthermore, you should assess the book, considering its contribution to the field, its coherency, and the author’s ability to challenge previous paradigms or results of migration research. Also consider the academic value and the strengths and weaknesses of the book. For your discussion of the book, try to address questions such as: - What did you learn from the book, what was particularly insightful or new to you? - Does the author offer a consistent argument? Why/why not? Does the author use adequate sources to support the argument? - What are the weaknesses/ strengths of the argument? - What is particularly original about the book? Does the author use or challenge existing paradigms or analytical frameworks of migration research? - What issues and topics for further discussion does the work raise? Will the book affect your future work in migration studies? How? - You may refer to other readings to strengthen your assessment. |
