Module contents

The module gives an overview of the aims and thematic fields of research in vocational education and training, and of empirical methods in social research. Based on theoretical and methodological knowledge generated in this module students develop their own research questions and designs.

The course of lecture “Research theories and concepts in vocational education and training” introduces central terms, objects and themes of this research field and most recent research outcomes (e.g. with regard to vocational training for sustainable development, digital media in the classroom, the importance of digitalization in the world of work, inclusive vocational schools). The basic principles of empirical research are discussed including research procedures, methods and criteria of good quality.

The seminar “Studies in research on vocational education” intensifies methodological aspects of social research work based, for example, on project work. Students develop their own research questions and designs.
