The module provides the fundamentals and tasks of business intelligence in enterprises on the basis of data warehousing. The students get an insight into current research and developments in obtaining and analyzing data.

Professional competence
The students:
  • nominate and recognize the role of business intelligence in entrepreneurial activities
  • analyze the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches and methods for the analysis of data and be able to apply them to simple case studies
  • obtain theoretical knowledge about the data collection and modeling, as well as applicable doing procedures
Methodological competence
The students:
  • perform tasks of business intelligence by expanding and bring your understanding to the different approaches and methods
  • learn by practice the methods advantages and disadvantages of different methods and can use optimized using the acquired knowledge these methods
Social competence
The students:
  • construct solutions to case studies given in the group, for example, to solve the problems such as factless fact table
  • discuss the solutions at a technical level
  • present the solutions of case studies as part of the exercises
Module contents
For the decision support data warehouse technology is increasingly being used in business. It enables the integration of data from heterogeneous source systems for a powerful reporting on very large volumes of data with far-reaching historical in nature. Among the leading solutions in this area is one of the SAP Business Information Warehouse. In addition to the Data Warehouse SAP BW provides tools for administration and about the SAP Business Explorer Reporting component
and therefore is a core component of SAP Business Intelligence. In the module, the following contents are taught

· Obtaining insight into the working methods and objectives of the Data Warehousing
· Knowledge of the implementation of data warehouse projects
· Data modeling, data collection and reporting in data warehouses practical application of the knowledge acquired at the instance of the SAP Business Information Warehouse in the lecture accompanying exercises based continuous case studies
· Phases of data modeling, data collection and reporting in connection with a plausible scenario
