Open data and its usage receive gaining interest among academics. However, open data knowledge and its chances and challenges are scattered and not comprehensively reviewed and synthesized.

Students should collect and discuss existing literature on open data. The search process should be protocoled transparently, and a future research agenda on the promising topic of open data should be examined.
