We investigate the cryptochrome gene family in fish and their ability to detect changes in the surrounding magnetic field. In a current effort, we try to identify potential genomic regions of CRY4 and CRY5 in several fish species and provide experimental evidence by RNA sequencing. |

Aufgabenstellung |
The project is split into two parts. The first part is to identify genomic regions of interest in published reference genomes, predict CRY4/CRY5 transcripts, and estimate the completeness of those. The second part is extraction of RNA from suitable specimen and full sequencing of the putative transcripts by designing specific primers. |

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in lab work as well as bioinformatics and is eager to learn these techniques. |
